Cruising the Mississippi River ... continuation

What Are Your Concerns? - Fuel Stops ... Do I Carry Enough?

There are numerous places to fuel up in the St. Louis area before you come down the river. I'd better qualify that...
There are numerous marinas  ABOVE Mel Price Lock/Dam (Lock 26 on the Upper Mississippi) where you can fuel up. Alton Marina in Alton or Grafton Harbor (new in 2006) in Grafton are both on the Illinois side and probably easiest to get to.

The next place to fuel - the next marina below  Alton - is at Hoppies Marine Services (a set of barges tied to the bank) in Kimeswick, Mo., 44 miles away. In my mind, a stop at Hoppies is almost a 'rite-of-passage' type of thing. Going downstream in the fall you'll probably share the stop with half-a-dozen other boats headed south, most of whom you'll travel with until off the Ohio.

The next possible fuel stop is 110 miles further down the river at Kidd's Fuel Dock in Cape Girardeau, Mo. This not a marina, just a fuel barge tied up to the flood wall. I understand you have to call at least the day before to order how much you need. (We'll talk more about C.G. later).

The next marina (and hence fuel stop) is 142 miles away at Green Turtle Bay Marina just above Barkley Lock/Dam on the Cumberland or one of the marinas above the Kentucky Lock/Dam on the Tennessee.

So... What kind of range does your boat have?  Hoppies to Cape Girardeau - 110 miles
Cape Girardeau to Green Turtle Bay - 140 miles
Alton to Green Turtle - 310 miles
