The Blockhouse was one of several built along the waterway to defend
it from the Americans. At times I got the idea that there was some disapointment
that they were never used. We had fun compareing Canadian and United States
versions of historical events in this part of the world.
Merrickville is a real (albeit somewhat touristy) town. Really popular
with shoppers.
