We had slowly worked our way up along the Michigan coast to the
top of Lower Michigan, the Straits of Mackinac, where Lakes Huron and Michigan
meet.
We had about 3 weeks worth of cruising here, exploring both by outselves
and with guests, Kevin and Karen, and later Eric and Ellen Liebrock.
Mackinac Island is the one at the lower left. We visited there again.
No automobiles allowed!! We'll try to get some pictures of this year's
visit.
We wanted to find a pleasent anchoirage close by and discovered the Les Cheneaux Islands. We spent about 5 days in some delightful places at anchor, mainly in Govenrment Bay (the rightmost red tack).
Then a great day in Wilderness Bay (the tack on the left).
The results from that overnight there were SPECTACULAR!. Little black
midges covered the boat! We had left the Stratiglass windows open with
just the screens in place on the aft deck. Piles of little bugs inside
too! We spent 2 hours cleaning..
We went back to Gov. Bay!
We to picked up Kevin and Karen on the 27th. at St. Ignace and visited Mackinac Island and caught on wedding plans over the weekend. This was the weekend of the Mackniac Bridge's 50th brithday celebration. Great parade!!
After saying goodbye to K&K we moved over to Mackinaw City (yes,
Mackinac is the french spelling, Mackinaw is the english - both pronounced
'-NAW') and picked up Eric and Ellen.
We returned to Government Bay and then back to St. Ignace for a few
day's visiting.
Our schedule continued to be relatively relaxed.
We got all the guests back home and then sterted back ourselves. More
on that next time.
Till Later!!
